Delegated Admin

The Delegated Admin assignment arose from a pressing need to upgrade PlainID's old delegated admin console. This console is designed to allow administrators to invite and manage users and roles efficiently.

The system is separate and independent from our main product, functioning as a connection platform between Company X and Company Y, with PlainID acting as the intermediary. Although fully operated by PlainID, the platform's visual and UI needed to align with the unique branding, look, and feel of different companies to meet their specific requirements.

From the beginning, we aimed to follow a structured order of work processes. While the journey sometimes progressed in a straight line, there were moments when I needed to retrace our steps and refine our approach. Despite these adjustments, the following process served as our primary guideline:

Research & Knowledge

Define

Prototyping & Design

Testing

This iterative process allowed us to balance flexibility with focus, ultimately delivering a well-researched and thoughtfully designed solution. Throughout the entire project, collaboration and communication among cross-functional teams—including designers, developers, and stakeholders—are crucial for successful UX design. The iterative nature of the process enables continuous refinement and improvement based on user feedback and evolving requirements.

Research & Knowledge

To lay a strong foundation, I conducted thorough user research to gain a deep understanding of the product, its target audience, and their needs, behaviors, and pain points with the former console. This phase was crucial in identifying areas that required improvement and opportunities for innovation.

Define

In this phase, we focused on defining the project’s scope, goals, and objectives. I developed user journeys and scenarios to map out the user experience, ensuring that the end-to-end flow addressed both business and user needs. We brainstormed and generated ideas for potential design solutions, using low-fidelity sketches and wireframes to visualize concepts and validate initial directions.

Prototyping & Design

We moved into prototyping and design, where I created interactive prototypes to test and validate our design concepts. Feedback was gathered from both stakeholders and users to refine and improve the prototypes. Collaborating closely with developers, I ensured the designs were implemented accurately, providing detailed design specifications and assets to support the development team.

Challenge

The main challenge in the project was the privileges section. This capability involves several users in their settings and, at a high level, deals with the ability to assign attributes when each privilege is assigned based on the previous one.

Testing

In the final phase, we conducted usability testing with real users to identify any usability issues or areas for improvement. The feedback and results from testing were used to iterate on the design, ensuring the final product met user expectations and achieved our project goals.
